Snowy PathWell it's happened, Snow and so soon in the winter. All the locals were assuring us that we wouldn't see any before February at the earliest and then there it was, White. It now turns out that this happened last year as well and that after a short spell of snow it cleared until February when large quantities fell and brought the place to a halt. Sounds like fun.

We of course had to act the lunatic tourist and go for a walk in it on the first night, just in case it melted. It was so peaceful with anyone who didn't absolutely have to go out staying in doors. The only traffic was the odd car and the busses. We had a great time ending up with a snowball fight with one of the local kids. It all still seems so very different from the UK.

The following morning the roads and pavements had all been cleared so life went on as usual if at least a little brighter after all the dull flat skies we'd had recently. We're not going to forget this in a hurry. We've since learned that the paths are cleared by volunteers up at 4 a.m. (they get a small reduction in their local taxes for this) using motorised mini-snow ploughs.
