Why is it that the British seem to have a compulsion to
get as drunk as they can as quickly
as possible and then take great satisfaction in making a public spectacle
of themselves? Is it alcohol addiction? Is it lack of pride? A continuing
and undiminished state of innocence? Or could it be they are just thick?
I pose these questions because of my visit home, where I saw a sight I have never seen in Switzerland, LOUD public drunkenness. I have seen Swiss people drink all night, having a great time in the process and never make this exhibition on the public streets. (The only loud drunk I have seen here was a Scot) At 2 in the morning when the bars close people here go home happy, relatively quietly and without molesting or disturbing their neighbours. And I can't understand why there's such a difference. And while we are on the subject why do British people have to tell stories of how the drank "Johnny Foreigner" under the table in Germany, France, Austria, Italy and in one case Scotland! (?) Have British lives become so shallow that this is the best achievement they can brag about?
Answers please on any size paper you like to The Prime Minister, Tony Blair, 11 Downing Street, London. In my opinion he should be more worried about this than the Bl**dy Dome making a profit. Sorry if this proved to be a bit of a rant but I had to say it.
