Continuing on the theme. We spent last night in Baden at their Fasnacht. Partying in freezing cold temperatures until 2 in the morning when we gave up and went home. The party simply continued with some revellers going home the following day, you can tell the ardent fasnachters by their painted faces and weird masks. Attacks by "mad" confetti throwers are commonplace as is every form of mechanical device for projecting industrial quantities of confetti over the crowds.
Some people must put a full years work into the celebrations. One group had adapted a car, several bikes and a large trailer to a MadMax/Demon King theme as well as all their costumes. Another were all in bright orange and yellow feathers, classic Rio style costumes, yet another had individually made grotesque masks, all on a monster theme. And so on. The bands when not performing on the official designated stages around town will wander round the streets "serenading" local cafes and bars until persuaded by a "gift" of drink to go elsewhere.
The story locally is that the biggest, wildest, party occurs in Basle. Which by all accounts is louder, more
colourful, more crazy, more....., more...., more...., etc. Certainly no half measures. Maybe next year. If I go into training now.
