Imagine it. A weekend in the Alps for your birthday, it was great. (Those of you who wished me Happy Birthday I thank you,.....and those of you who thought lucky dog......... .I agree.) But why comment about it here if not to brag?

Well it was the first time I have experience one of the famous
mountain weather phenomena, the Fohn (still no umlaut) Wind. Those of you
not interested in mountains or weather will be singularly unimpressed but
for the rest of us this will mean something.
We drove with some friends to the resort of Adleboden on the Saturday. Through rain at low level and into snow at the resort . The snow stopped about midday and the afternoon was fine with broken cloud. Sunday was fine and clear all day with the Wind freshening out of nothing in mid afternoon. It was strong enough to be a problem for some cablecars. Later in the day we went to Meiringen for cakes and coffee and happened past the local weather station where the Hygrometer (humidity measurer) showed an incredible drop from 100% the previous morning to something below the bottom of the scale (less than 20%).
The air was still clear and we could see the wind was screaming across the mountain tops by the way it scoured the snow from the ridges. It was a most dramatic effect worthy of any Hollywood movie. Truly spectacular.
