Something's seem so familiar and remain so different. The local
kids still make Dee-dah noises when they pretend to Police cars, the local
people are just as fascinated by the weather, and the school holidays come
round at roughly the same time of year. In the UK the traditional October
holiday (once called Blackberry week)
occurs
a little earlier here. This is partly because the school year starts earlier
and partly because the holiday (traditionally know as Potato week) occurs
roughly at the time of year to pick potatoes. Earlier in the year I observed
the need for the local community to remind the populace publicly of the start
of school. This I supposed to be because of their agrarian history, with this
new evidence it seems more likely to be correct and my confidence in this
observation grows
As this months offering is fairly short I'll just add in a few brief observations which still puzzle me.
Why do Swiss trains have Steering Wheels in the cab? Is it so the Driver can feel more involved?
Why are the Swiss, a nation with a near perfect public transport system so addicted to the car?
And why when you can buy every sort of Italian food you want you can't get some English Bacon?
