It would appear, if the Sunday Times is to be believed, that the Alps are about to fall down........Panic The story is a simple one. The Alps, particularly the higher ones, are held together by permafrost. This is thawing, therefore the Alps will fall down....some day. Panic over, well not quite.
You see the story here is the same as most of the world. The summers seem hotter and the winters dryer and warmer. Twenty years ago this part of Switzerland would have 4 to 6 weeks of snow per year (if the locals are to be believed). This winter we've seen three mornings of snow, none of it lasted. However reading about this global warming can be confusing. After all there is so much money tied into it for ALL the interest groups. Both supposed Saviours and supposed Destroyers of the planet. Let me give you some examples. CO2 is killing the planet and the car is the main source of CO2 - well maybe, but there is now a lot of evidence the the increase in suns radiation alone could account for everything we've seen so far. Certainly some sources of weather records show a rise in average temperature over the last 150 years. Long before the car was invented.
The Ice Caps will melt and flood the world after all a glacier has recently disappeared in Greenland - that last part is true but the volcano erupting under it may have more to do with the problem than the Greens would have us believe. Also the Glaciers in Scandinavia are growing.???
OK Try this one. All the world has experienced an increase average in temperature - well, the East Coast of the USA has experienced an fall average temperature over the last 10 years. Due to increase cloud cover.
You see I warned you it wasn't easy. It gets worse when you start reading about books that claim the last Ice Age only ended three years ago and all this is normal (Link). However the fact remains this has been one of the warmest winters on record and the Permafrost in the Alps is thawing. If this continues it will lead to some of the higher ones falling down. So if you ever wanted to see the Alps I suggest you make it soon and Get'em while they're cold.
