And
so life goes on. Another Christmas and New Year at home. Then a return to
Switzerland. It's strange how quickly life becomes ordinary, even in such
an extraordinary country.
So what has changed? Well we have now realized that we are becoming "Old Hands" at this Expat game. We recently had friends move across and it was our turn to help with accommodation, the complications of moving into a flat with no lights, the worries of new laws, and all the other settling in things which seem so ordinary at home but which are so strange in a foreign country.--
Over the last few weeks I've had to cope with the following terrors;
- Renting a Flat
- Flats with few or no lights.
- The intricacies of registering as a legal alien.
- Opening new bank accounts.
- Changing drivers licences
- Health insurances
All on behalf of a friend who has just moved to he country. I've even succeeded in dealing with many of these things in German (BAD German). Something I couldn't' have done a year ago. How times change.
