They say there is a first time for everything and that was certainly true for my wife and I recently. Ski TracksWe went Skiing. That wasn't it however what was new to us was it was the first time we've ever had a bathroom with a balcony.

We went for a skiing weekend in Engelberg. Engelberg lies in the heart of Switzerland, south of Lucerne and just below a mountain called Titlis. Due to the shape of the local landscape and closeness of a glacier the resort can generally offer skiing well into May so it seemed like the ideal place for a little spring skiing. We took a late availability booking for the week end in the only hotel available and hoped for the best. The hotel was a little on the old side and slightly worn round the edges but clean with a friendly staff. The double room came with a balcony which looked directly onto the mountains which was fabulous and the large bathroom, which had been converted by splitting the next room as has happened in a lot of old hotels, also had a balcony which shared the view. A real touch of luxury.

It had been ten years since I had last skied and a lot has changed since then. The boots are all front entry now and these new carving skis are weird. At least at first. I used to ski one 185cm. skis so it was a complete surprise when the chap at the hire company handed me a pair of 150cm skis, questioning if I was skilled enough to use them. He was only satisfied I could take them when I explained I used to teach skiing. Still it felt good to be back. Snow falling, wind whistling past my head. Perfect. For my wife it had been even longer since she had skied so we arranged for a one to one ski lesson. What is it about ski instructors? I wonder, why do women always think they are wonderful, my wife no exception. After all they are just doing a job. Oh while I remeber the Ski school at Engelberg don't seem particularlly interested in booking lessons on-line. We tried with no success, so I recomend you contact them by phone if you are going. Don't worry about the language they all seem to speak good English.
