Those of you who are regular readers may remember the visit of my wife's friend "Sue the Nun", later called "The Screaming Nun" by me after our joint escapades with a toboggan on Pilatus. (Link) She left us having had a wonderful time saying she did not know if she would ever get back.
Well the Lord must have decided Switzerland had not learnt it's lesson , as a result of "His mysterious ways" she phoned us earlier in the year with the news that an international ecumenical group she belonged to was having a meeting in Neuchatel, which is in the French speaking part of Switzerland, and could we possibly put her up for a few days afterwards. For some strange reason we said yes. Now last time she came she requested a chance to see mountains with snow, this time her ambition was to see a glacier and if possible the Matterhorn. And so began a plot to deceive the like of which has not been seen since the D-day landings (Exaggeration Alert!).
At this point I'd like to say something about Neuchatel. My wife and I had been there since 10:30 and had taken the opportunity to have a quick look around the centre. We found it to be a beautiful provincial Swiss city with a very French flavour to it's architecture and shops and has an excellent lakeside promenade. I would happily recommend a visit to anyone. |
The plot was hatched, plans were laid, everything was executed with the care and precision of a military tattoo.
We met her 12:30 on the Saturday her conference ended in Neuchatel railway station to catch a train apparently "for a day out". We got the train to Lausanne.
Now Sue may be of a religious calling but stupid she ain't, she started to suspect something was up and questioned us accordingly. This eventually resolved itself into an understanding. Yes we were up to something, No we were not going to tell what and all guesses right or wrong would receive no response from us. This did not stop her guessing, nor us being annoyingly smug and saying nothing.
