Me and my inlaws at BriggIf you are reading this then I means I owe you an apology. I always try to come up with a witty title for these pages. Sometimes I get half way there and on other occasions I don't. The above attempt (a phonetic pun on "What's the matter" for those of you in a sober/legal/sane (?) state of mind) shows what can be born out of desperation to lift the tone of this site after the last two entries. OK...so....here goes!

My In-laws have been visiting again. Yes, they actually found time in their busy schedule to fit in a few days visiting us here in Switzerland. (What it is to be retired, I can't wait.) Each time they visit they try to make one trip out with an over-night stop some where interesting. This time we got them to Zermatt.

Yes I know I've talked about it before but it is a very special place. This time the weather was very different, we arrived in sunshine, deposited our cases in the left luggage and headed straight up the Gornergrat Railway. Now I must state that my wife's father was not too keen to visit Zermatt, but the weather and a glimpse of the Matterhorn from the Bahnhofplatz mellowed him and we persuaded him to play along. My wife's mother was overjoyed, this was a place she had always wanted to visit. My wife and her parents on the GornergratAs the train climbed the mountain my father-in-law (who hadn't believed he would need extra film) started to take photos. By the time we reached the top he had changed the film and felt he might need an extra one. That mountain (the Matterhorn) seems to have that effect on most people. No matter where you look the eye is drawn back to it time and time again. When we got there we basked in the sun, drank coffee and beer, and wallowed in the scenery. This place is magical! Evening was the 'compulsory' Fondue which also proved popular.

If you only get a chance to visit Switzerland once in your life this is an ABSOLUTE MUST for any visitor.
