The path then follows the undulating ridge of the Lägärn to the
Burghorn, which is the highest point on the ridge and gives views north to
the Black Forest, west along the Jura Mountains, south to the Swiss Alps and
east to the Austrian Alps when the weather allows.
From the top of the Burghorn the ridge undulates along the ridge which varies in width as it wanders in and out of the woodland which grows so close to the top of this ridge, continuing, as it does so, to give views of the surrounding area. The path leads past the ruin of Altlägärn. A 12th century fortification which dominated the ridge and the surrounding countryside. These days a large part of it has fallen into the valley and only the base of a few walls can be seen. Access is most easy from the eastern corner near the path. The path then leads past the radar for Zurich Airport and on to the Hochwacht. A restaurant where you can indulge yourself.
After the Hochwacht the path descends gently down to a saddle just below
the Medieval town of Regensberg. It is a short climb from there to the town
and well worth the effort. Regensberg is one of the most beautiful little
towns in Switzerland in my opinion. You walk through it away from the Schloss
and exit at the opposite end of the old town to descend a little more steeply
than before to Dielsdorf and the Swiss Rail network. The Walk will take 4
to 5 hrs. depending on how you dawdle.
N.B. the ascent from the Schloss Schartenfels
would be very risky with Hard frost or Ice underfoot.
